Geothermal
technology is the ideal choice for heating and cooling in virtually
every type of commercial building-large or small. The extraordinary
efficiencies of this technology make it the most cost-effective
method for heating and cooling, reducing monthly energy bills by
up to 60% over ordinary systems. It's also an excellent long-term
investment for any business.
Unlike
traditional furnaces that burn fuels for heat and require separate
air conditioning or chiller systems, geothermal heat pumps, also
known as ground source heat pumps, simply "move" heat
from one place to another instead of "creating" it to
provide both heating and cooling. This is accomplished by tapping
into the moderate temperatures found just a few feet below the earth's
surface and using this relatively constant, renewable energy source
for heating, cooling and hot water.
A
water-based solution is circulated through a loop system of underground
pipes. During heating, the solution absorbs the heat from the earth
and transports it to the geothermal units in the building where
it is compressed to a high temperature and distributed throughout
the building. During cooling, the process is reversed, extracting
the heat from the inside the building and replacing it with cool,
dehumidified air.
Since
only a small amount of electricity is required to power the pump,
compressor and fan, geothermal systems deliver up to four times
more energy than they consume. In addition to lower operating costs
and higher efficiency, geothermal systems are also safe, clean and
maintenance free. And because they don't burn any fossil fuels,
there are no flames, fumes or harmful gas emissions or pollution
to our environment.
